SURU is a melodic metal band from Guadalajara/Toledo, Spain. Formed in 2008, the group was founded by vocalist Alvaro Malta and guitarist Rubén Nogueira. One month later, Juli was the first bassist of the band and three years later he quits. After several changes, the current lineup is: Alvaro Malta-Voice, Rubén Nogueira-Guitar, Miguel Rodriguez-Guitar, Juanma Viñas-Bass and Victor Martinez-Drums.
SURU is the result of exploring new sounds in the European metal scene. Deep melodic voices and death screams come together to create an original band. Heavy guitars and powerful drums complete the songs. The name of SURU means sorrow (finnish language) and it reflects the pessimism feeling of the lyrics. They call this concept as Brutal Goth.
After great local shows, in 2010, SURU takes part in the tour “When death is most alive” with Dark Tranquillity and Insomnium in Madrid (Spain), thanks to Century Media.
In 2011, the band signs with Suspiria Records for the release of their debut album called “Catharsis”, with the collaboration of Tuomas Saukkonen from Before the Dawn and Black Sun Aeon.
The album will be released in Japan and Greece in 2012.

SURU es una banda de metal melódico que llega desde Guadalajara/Toledo. Formada en 2008, el grupo fue fundado por el cantante Alvaro Malta y el guitarrista Rubén Nogueira. Un mes más tarde, Juli se une a la banda como el primer bajista y tres años después la abandona. Tras varios cambios, la formación actual está formada por: Alvaro Malta-Voz, Rubén Nogueira-Guitarra, Miguel Rodrïguez-Guitarra, Juanma Viñas-Bajo and Víctor Martínez-Batería.
SURU es el resultado de explorar nuevos sonidos dentro de la escena metalera europea. Voces melódicas profundas y gritos guturales vienen unidos para crear una original banda. Guitarras pesadas y potentes baterías completan las composiciones. El nombre de SURU significa tristeza (idioma finlandés) y refleja el sentido pesimista de las letras. Ellos definen este concepto como Brutal Goth.
En 2010, SURU participa en el tour internacional “When death is most alive” junto a Dark Tranquillity e Insomnium en Madrid, gracias a Century Media.
En 2011, la banda firma un contrato discográfico con Suspiria Records para la publicación de su álbum debut llamado “Catharsis”, donde se incluye la colaboración de Tuomas Saukkonen de bandas como Before the Dawn o Black Sun Aeon.
